Barça Talk Delay Final Episode for New Manager Announcement

FC Barcelona will play the Copa del Rey final this Saturday against Alavés, and the club will announce the successor to Luis Enrique at the reins of the first team on Monday. Enrique announced he would not renew his contract after this season in March, and since then a plethora of names have been thrown about as his possible successors. In recent weeks, Ernesto Valverde has risen to the top of the list as most likely to succeed Lucho.

Valverde has officially announced that he will not be returning to manage Athletic Bilbao next year. In his news conference, Valverde said, “Right now I have no commitment to any team even though there are teams that have been interested in me.”

While it remains unofficial on both Valverde’s and the club’s side, it seems likely that Valverde will be going to FC Barcelona soon. The announcement will be made on Monday, after Enrique’s has completed his official duties. As a result, Barça Talk will await the announcement and postpone its normal schedule by one day to include the news on the next episode, the last episode of the season.

Barça Talk: La Liga is Over | Big Club News | Copa del Rey

Barça won their final match against Eibar with an impressive comeback at the Camp Nou, but Real Madrid also finished their season strong with wins against Celtic and Malaga to claim the league championship. We look back at the Barcelona’s season in La Liga and look ahead to the Copa del Rey final against Alavés, along with some news stories concerning the club.

Coming up on Barça Talk, 15 May 2017

On Episode 13 of Barça Talk (15 May 2017), we’ll see if the race for the trophy in La Liga has remained the hotly contested battle between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona ever since the Blaugrana won at the Bernabeu. We also welcome our second guest: Matt Williams is getting his doctorate in music, like me, but he’s played a lot of soccer. At an impressive 6’4″ he spent most of his soccer career between the posts, and when he was young he fell victim to the marketing of Real Madrid in the Galacticos era. Without pushing too hard, I try to make a case for why he should be a fan of FC Barcelona instead. He’s open to it, and I convince him to let the men on the pitch convert him.
